Is Your Medical Spa Provider Legal?

Image
There has been a proliferation of medical spas popping up everywhere due to the steady increase in consumer demand for minimally invasive medical aesthetic services.  In Virginia, this has been compounded by the lack of state laws that prohibit non-physicians from owning and operating medical practices. Unfortunately, opportunists, many with little or no knowledge of legislation governing the practice of medicine and even worse, improper or no medical education or credentialing are setting up shop, hoping to get rich in this lucrative and growing industry.   In an informal survey of the Hampton Roads area, there have been practices identified who have unlicensed employees prescribing and injecting Botox® and Dermal Fillers, performing laser treatments, and even those that lack a qualified Medical Director and/or physician oversight. Whether they call themselves a Medspa, Medical Spa, Medi-spa, Medical Aesthetics Practice, or Non-Surgical Aesthetic Medicine Practice, if these e...

Should You Try IV Therapy?

Image
During these uncertain times, many are canceling routine wellness appointments with their doctors in lieu of a tele-med appointment, or postponing their appointment entirely until "this is over."   YET, to the contrary, at Riva MEDSPA, our IV wellness infusion appointments have become increasingly in demand.   As a Virginia medical practice, offering a non-traditional, alternative medicine service may seem in conflict with professional etiquette.  In reality, and in consideration of the facts, it makes perfect sense: IV Therapy has been used in hospitals and outpatient clinics for many years to treat a plethora of conditions, from dehydration to nutrient absorption issues. IV wellness infusions are not meant to cure any disease or active illness, but are used to support a healthy lifestyle, supplement depleted vitamins and minerals, and assist the body to use its own resources in response to pain, inflammation, weight gain, depression, fatigue and other...

Continuity of Care and COVID-19

Image
To stop the spread of COVID-19, our doors are temporarily closed to the public and for all aesthetic and facial services.   However, to ensure continuity of care for our Hormone Therapy and IV Infusion patients, we are scheduling appointments for these medical services only. We are Keeping Our Environment Safe. As a medical practice in the state of Virginia, we are following the following protocols to keep our patients, employees and environment safe from the spread of COVID-19: Appointments are spaced further apart so that interaction in the common areas among patients will be avoided and to allow time for thorough sanitation of treatment areas using hospital-grade disinfectant. Patients and employees are screened upon arrival to determine the possibility of virus presence or exposure. Face masks are mandatory for all employees, providers, and clients. Treatment areas are throughly sanitized after each patient appointment. Common areas are kept clean and di...
